CONSTITUENTS RECEIVE FREE LEGAL SERVICES

Constituents in Mmathethe/Molapowabojang have been urged to utilise a free legal advice and services initiative at their disposal.

The area MP, Dr Edwin Dikoloti (MP and Minister of Health & Wellness), recently organised and partnered with five law firms to provide free legal advice and services to his constituents.
He said the initiative followed his constituency office receiving a lot of cases, which often required legal advice such as civil matters, land disputes, property issues, inheritance, family law and other general ones.

Dr Dikoloti urged residents to take advantage of the service since it was meant to help with such cases.

The MP, who is also the Minister of Health and Wellness, promised residents that all matters brought forward would be dealt with in utmost confidentiality.

For her part, Mbewe Legal Practice, Attorney, Ms Njirimanda Mbewe, said the team of five lawyers had partnered with the MP to establish a legal aid initiative for the Mmathethe/Molapowabojang constituency, as a way of giving back to the community.

“In recognition of the distance to Gaborone, which is quite a hassle to the majority of them and the expenses that they have to incur to locate us, we have dedicated this time to hear them and find out their issues,” she said.

Ms Mbewe said they had committed themselves to not only consult, but also represent those clients at the courts should the case warrant such.

She said they had also engaged a counsellor, who would be able to address social issues, where the need arises, adding that they were hopeful that when they speak to relevant officials as attorneys, they would be more receptive, adding however that they were prepared to go further should the need arise.

She said she was pleased that the community had come out to take advantage of the service in good numbers.

Ms Mbewe appealed to others in a position to assist through their expertise to do so. BOPA
